In a little ski town south of Anchorage, the sky, mountains, glaciers and ocean all meet in a spectacular fashion along the shores of Turnagain Arm – a branch of the Pacific Ocean claiming the second largest tidal fluctuation in the world. Girdwood, Alaska is home to this beautiful setting. If you’re looking for something along the road system in Alaska (as opposed to flying out into the wilderness) – this is a great choice. The rocky crags and cliffs jut out into the water, where we sometimes see Beluga whales feeding on hooligan and pink salmon during our photo sessions and weddings. The mountains rise 5000+ feet straight out of the sea, with little glaciers spilling down their sides. There are a variety of different spots along Turnagain Arm to have your ceremony or photo session – some are a brief 2 minute walk from the car, while others require a 10-15 minute walk with a little rock scrambling. Despite being such a short walk from the car, these spots often afford a high level of privacy and seclusion – a good choice if you want to avoid the crowds and hustle and bustle of some busier locations. We love to combine these spots as a supplement to a Glacier Helicopter Wedding, or our Rainforest and Waterfall Weddings. It really is possible to do all of them in one day! Imagine combining glaciers, mountains, waterfalls, oceans, whales, rainforests, all in one day! It’s possible – check out our Destination Wedding Portfolios for examples!
