Nick Gillespie grew up in Michigan a few miles away from Joe. While doing an exchange year in Munich, Germany he met his wife, got married in Austria, and had Joe photograph their wedding. Nick and Joe have been close friends ever since. Upon finishing his studies, Nick and his wife moved back to Detroit. Nick worked for Google for a year, then decided to pursue teaching as a career all while photographing weddings. In 2006 the Gillespie’s moved to Anchorage where Nick studied at APU, and then had the privilege of being a part of the Rilke Schule (German charter school) founding. Even when Nick isn’t at a wedding, his camera is usually not far away. Whether it’s fly fishing, rock climbing, hiking, road-tripping, snow-machining, or just playing with his 3 boys, a camera is around his neck.
Nick received his first “real” professional level camera and darkroom when he was 16, and has been shooting professionally since 2004. Since then, Nick has photographed over 1,000 weddings. His work has taken him to 15 different states, Canada, Germany, Ireland, and the Vatican. His photos have been featured in numerous local, as well as national publications, and in 2017 he was honored as one of the top 50 photographers in the United States by Borrowed and Blue.
