After purchasing this home, we began an inside-out total renovation to bring it up to the most modern standards, with high end finishes and all new interior and exterior surfaces. We have traveled the world staying at vacation rental properties and took extensive notes of all the best things we found and brought them here under one roof.
Nestled in a forest of Mountain Hemlocks hundreds of years old, the home is located in a quiet neighborhood only a 5-6 minute walk from the Glen Alps/Flattop Trailhead providing the most direct and easy access to Chugach State Park. Blueberries surround the property and are yours to pick from the end of July through August.
There are endless possibilities for hiking, climbing, and skiing from the house. Or, if you prefer to sit and relax and read a book, the view from the deck or living room couch of the Anchorage skyline and Denali/Mt. McKinley is spectacular.
The photos below really show the beauty of this area and are just a sneak peak of the house and the surrounding landscapes. Bears, wolves, moose, coyotes, lynx, hare, wolverines, porcupines, ptarmigan, and eagles are all routine visitors. We have seen all of these animals on the property! The clouds, light, and weather are also very dramatic and you will really experience what it’s like living in the mountains of Alaska.
The home is a 25 minute drive from the Anchorage International Airport, 30 minutes to downtown Anchorage, 15 minutes to the nearest grocery store, and about 45 minutes to Girdwood.

My fiance and I booked Joe to photograph us during our marriage in Alaska, and he told us about Hemlock House. We booked it for our dates and were surprised once we got there. It was our first Airbnb experience and it sure didn’t disappoint! The house is up on the side of a mountain, and the views are breathtaking. The fresh made cookies were a nice treat, and it was like a brand new house. As we checked it out, we quickly realized that if we had forgotten anything, it was already there for our use! The kitchen was fully stocked and has two ovens. The dining room table and deck gives you those gorgeous views of the Sleeping Lady, Anchorage, and the water down below. There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and two living rooms so plenty of space to accommodate larger groups. We were able to do our laundry and play a board game if we wanted to. The bathrooms had anything you could imagine to use, stocked when we arrived. There were also kid items, a high chair, etc, and a little Hemlock House next to the main house for kids to play with. We spent a lot of our time on the deck. They had an iron and a steamer to use, which I fully utilized on my wedding dress!! I could write paragraphs for days on how Hemlock House was the perfect place to stay. Joe and Brook were available to give tips and locations to see if you wanted. They answered all our questions and are some of the friendliest people. This house is definitely highly recommended and gives an even better memory of Alaska. Check it out! You won’t be disappointed.
